I have no words...

Get ready to laugh...

So this morning we went with my friend Mariselle and her daughter to a store to look for some things for Bree and Gabe's birthdays (which are coming up in a couple weeks!). I was at the checkout counter when I look over to see our cart go crashing to the ground!! I caught a little bit of it which hopefully took away some of the blow, but yes, it landed on Bree and Gabe hit the ground. The next few moments were like slow motion... I reach down and pull out Gabe who of course is crying...the woman behind us in line (who had already saved me when Gabe almost grabbed and dropped a bottle of wine while we were waiting to check out!) keeps reaching for Gabe like she would hold him, but speaking in Spanish that isn't registering at all...I'm kneeling on the ground and reach over and pull in Bree with my other hand, who is also crying...sweet Mariselle is kneeling next to me helping pick up my wallet and purse and stuff that has fallen...and what do I do? Normally I'm pretty sure I would just comfort my children, gather up our things and smoothly and calmly pay and leave. But no, I start crying!! Seriously, it wasn't even embarrassing, it was just plain pitiful. And now really quite funny. Three poor Americans sitting on the floor crying. Oh I can just picture it. And the sad thing was I couldn't stop! We got up, I looked at the cashier who was also almost crying herself and said, "Lo siento" (I'm sorry). We started walking out and one of the guys who works at the store had a plastic frozen bottle of soda and told me it was for Gabe's head. I learned this the other day when we were at our other friend's house, I guess in Costa Rica if someone hits their head they need ice. Ya, like Gabe is going to let someone put ice on his head :) But I said gracias and he put the bottle up to Gabe's head which lasted all of five seconds. It was a sweet gesture though. Then as we walked out of the store another man ran after us and told me to make sure to put ice on his head. Maybe they thought it was swollen? No, my child just has a large head thank you. And yes, all this time I am still crying. (Gotta love this time of the month.)

Needless to say I was completely at a loss for words. English or Spanish.
At least I can laugh about it now :)

I'm so glad I just checked your blog because it looks like you just posted this story. You are so cute! Although I could totally see myself doing the exact same thing (in a foreign country where everything's a little thrown off), I am totally laughing. I love how you just started crying along with them and couldn't stop. I'm way jealous of your adventures out there. You are definitely one that could pull it off with two little kids and everything. Anyways, just wanted to say hi and wish we could talk more. Szeretlek!

Oh Jes. I would kind of feel like a jerk for laughing at that. It sounds so sad to have you all crying like that! Okay, I guess I'm a jerk because I am laughing a little. I'm glad to hear someone as together as you has those moments. When I was pregnant with Kate I had several. I watched the evening news one time and there was a sad story and I just broke down crying and couldn't stop. Mitch probably thought I'd really lost it! Dang hormones! Well, this is just another Costa Rica adventure to add to your smelly clothes and ants and all the others!

Still, it's a sweet story. I wish I could have been there to help. :)

Sorry about the store but the rest of your adventures make me jealous. How are you learning spanish? I can send you the stuff that I use with the missionaries in the MTC if you need other stuff. Keep posting pictures, Reuben and I love looking at them. How long are you staying out there? Reuben keeps telling me he wants to come visit... I think he's forgetting that we're having a baby in March.

I'm the same way. When I start "flowin" the tears start flowin'.

Thanks for the laugh. I always feel validated when other mother's go through such experiences so I don't feel alone! It's great to record experiences like these so you don't forget them.

Love the updates and pictures. We got something off to Bree in the mail Friday...so let me know if you every get it!

At first I felt bad at laughing at your "learning experience", but then I got over it and just laughed the whole way through. Thanks for sharing. And you made me laugh even harder because I'm well aware of the silly latin american superstitions about health. Ice on bruised heads is a new one. Another one to be aware of: Don't drink really cold water on a hot day or your body will go into thermal shock!! and you will die!! Luke warm Jes, .. .luke warm.

I myself am almost in tears just imagining it! I'm so sorry. Just think about how brave you are! You are in a foreign country with two kids and you don't speak the language. There aren't many women that brave. And if any of us can do it, you can.

Soo fun to hear and see about the ups and the downs of Costa Rica life so far! We miss you guys and are kicking ourselves that we didn't get to have you for a meal before you left. I admire your sprit of adventure in visiting all the places and doing so much. Hope the week back to class for Robbie is going well, and keep the updates coming! Your place looks great!

I almost always cry when Finley does. I just can't help it! So how did the cart topple over?

Oh Jesika! That is quite the story! I guess everyone has to have some sort of serious emotional breakdown while living in a foreign country. So glad we can laugh at such moments! We are thinking of you guys--jealous of your adventures!

Jesika, You are a hoot to imagine as we mothers have all experienced similar kinds of things: the three of you on the floor crying! Great to read your blog and follow your adventure. Love, Grandma and Grandpa
